The Bulletin / avril 1997

Frédéric Halbreich.

You may not know exactly why It's right, but you see at once that it is - the lines shapes and colours in abstract yet necessary juxtaposition on the canevas. Brillant hard - edge pictures, the paint applied with a knife, the way a sculptor works in clay. It comes as no surprise to learn that Halbreich is a musician; his innate sense of rhythm and harmony is immediately apparent. The eye can imagine how the music would sound (a suggestion of Luigi Nono perhaps).

Racines & l'Oeil, 7 rue Ravenstein, Brussels, until May 5; open from noon to 6 pm, from11 to 4 pm, on Sunday, closed Tuesday.
